Fundamental Error

Today marks the lowest point of my career experience in Human Resource. Despite garnering past experience in recent months that senior management are scrutinising how our HR works behind the scenes to focus on developing and maximising human capital. We fumbled.

There is a fundamental error in the way the department function. I had admired Dr Goh Keng Swee about his spirit to be a good and capable second man to Mr Lee Kuan Yew in the founding years. Anticipating and drawing debates to strengthen the arguments before passing a law or policy. What happen to us?

I could not see eye to eye with my boss on moving forward. The heart issues are seemed to be tackled at the quantity of events or engagement done. I disagree.

Being excluded in the development and posting strategies often left me frustrated. Soul-search, is it a case that I am incompetent that led to this decision? I am puzzled.. It has not be inclusive the day I became deputy. Often explained is the mountainous volume of HR mandate transaction that I am involved, why load me with more.

This is the fundamental error. I could not effectively carry the policy or recommendations in his absence and explained to a group of frustrated senior management. Why? I asked.. if I do not know the big plan or discussion that arrives at the big plan, how can I be effective?

This is a fundamental error. The communication with my boss has to be more open. Don't miss the pound for the penny.

I am going to US!!

Dream come true.. I have been longing to go for this course some 4 years back. But I have always been disappointed by my HR, telling me that only selected group with certain profile will be selected to represent the organisation. And I dun fit the bill.

After years of continued hardwork despite setbacks, finally, my senior management recognise me for my performance and capacity to hold important appointments. And now this reward.

Such ironic to think that I was contemplating to stay in this organisation just few months ago and even wanted to reject my promotion in Jun, and now I am committing another 3 years at least.

Whatever it is, these episodes had gone down history book and I look forward to learn from US and contribute when I am back.
